Pharmacist, Alderman and Mayor of Detroit. Born in Bernardstown, Mass. on Feb. 27, 1798, Marshall Chapin studied medicine at Geneva, New York, graduating in 1819. With the help of his uncle, he extablished the first drug store in Detroit in 1819. Chapin served as Alderman at large in 1826, 1827, and was elected mayor of Detroit in 1831.
